THEATRE HOPPING
by Jez Bond
Two evenings of great musicals. Last night I attended a marvellous and very funny production of Crazy For You in the open air at Regent’s Park. Tonight I returned (for the 7th show this year?) to the Southwark Playhouse where a terrific, powerful production of Parade is currently playing. Lovely to see the producers, Joe and Danielle, and to hook up, albeit briefly, with actor Philip Rham who I hadn’t seen for a few years.
Earlier this afternoon, while Melli packed her bags to fly home from New York (where she has been for the past week) I stepped into the offices of Nick Hytner at the National. Nick was very excited to learn about the Park Theatre and is facilitating a partnership between us and the literary department and the NT Studio. There may be some other ways in which he might also lend a hand, but I shall say no more lest I start counting chickens before they hatch.
